Funny cartoons are perhaps the easiest way to cope with stress and there is nothing easier to obtain, whether browsing a newspaper or magazine, or surfing the net visiting web sites providing graphic entertainment.

Stress is the source of numerous diseases, including chronic fatigue, headache, anxiety attacks, mood swings, peptic ulcers, and in more severe cases, migraines, respiratory problems, high blood pressure, and heart disease. However, medical research has found that humor is helpful therapy that not only reduces our chances to be at risk for these problems, but also can eradicate them. Funny cartoons promote relaxing smiles that enhance anyone’s mood with ease. Scientific evidence found that an estimated 40% to 80% of visits to the doctor’s office occur due to illness directly linked to stress. When there is no humor to cope with stressful situations, people tend to abuse alcohol and drugs, to escape from stress.

Other people may suffer from eating disorders and smoking problems, but as soon as they find a good source of laughter, such as funny cartons, the situation changes, finding prompt recovery and over time suppressing all the stress in no time. Cartoons are graphical depictions that provoke a smile after people look at them, so there is no need to undergo complicated and costly therapies to recover your good spirit by laughing aloud.

When you see the funny side of the miracles in life that can happen and you soon will be recovering from stress. Seriously, it is not a joke that you can find emotional support and alleviate most diseases with just a smile. “Spend 1 minute – get 1 smile”, why not make this simple phrase your motto for a healthy life? Funny cartoons provide you with humor and a positive attitude in your life.

There are plenty of writers on our planet who can write countless topics in a serious, straightforward manner. But very few know how to add one magical component into their writing to make it more palatable and enjoyable. And that magical component is humor. If you want your writing to be enjoyed by your intended audience then you must add an acceptable dose of clean humor into it. It is the lack of humor that makes most articles and books tasteless even if it contains useful stuff. Writing about any serious topic you are familiar with is perhaps easy, but adding humor to it is very difficult and sometimes even dangerous if you take too many liberties. Hence you must learn some basic rules if you want to write humor and make your stuff enjoyable. And those top secret tips are outlined below.

1. The first rule for anyone who want to write humor is to become bold. Contrary to what most people think humor writers are actually very brave people. You need to develop a thick skin, nerves of steel and become brave slowly day by day. You can not be funny if you are scared to poke fun at things, issues, people, etc. And you can’t be funny if you’re afraid of embarrassing yourself or lampooning a famous personality. Verbally anyone can be funny, but it takes guts to put the same in writing and let the public read, and maybe the entire world see it. So humorists need a lot of courage to write and publish something funny about an issue, person or a concept.

2. What is important is that you should make your readers think what you have written is funny. But a person who writes humor you need not look funny, act funny or make goofy antics. You should become a person that nobody would suspect of writing funny and witty stuff. You can be a serious type of person and yet have the ability to write fantastic humor. This adds more spice and an aura of mystery to your personality.

3. Most people think writing humor is simply about saying and writing jokes about other people. But this is only partially true. Top humorists mainly make fun of themselves and not about someone. The best humor is always self directed. Direct the humor towards yourself that way you will not annoy anyone. People will laugh if you make fun of yourself, but they may be outraged if you make fun of them. The most important thing about writing humor is to allow your readers to laugh at you and with you, and then optionally at themselves.

4. It is not funny to be always funny. There is a time to be funny and there is a time not to be funny. And this is something you need to observe and learn. Something that is extremely funny in one place may not be understood at all in another. Something that is funny on a rowdy football stadium may sound offensive inside a religious place. And in some situations or circumstances you should not indulge in anything funny no matter how irresistible it is to write something hanky panky.

5. A piece of writing can never be final and fully funny in one go. Like a diamond it needs to trimmed, improved and polished as much as possible. You need to review it in terms of using a better sentence, a more mischievous word, rearranging the sentences, modifying to a completely different angle or deleting something that does not seem right, etc. After you think you have finished writing a humor piece revisit it after a few hours or a couple of days. Suddenly you can discover new and better ways of writing the same article that can seem vastly superior to your previous article.

6. Think wild, think crazy but at the same time be moderate so that it does not put anyone, including yourself, in trouble. Often in your enthusiasm words and sentences can flow like a mad river and you may write something horrible that you momentarily think is funny or harmless. But it could be laced with trouble when reviewed carefully. So take care to frequently pause your writing to view it from different angles and from the reader’s perspective. Then you may need to give your writing a haircut and then continue.

7. The final piece of advice is writing humor takes time. To excel in humor is a lifetime job, and is not something that you can learn in a day or two. Don’t think you can read a joke book and start writing funny stuff an hour later. You will have to teach yourself how to be funny. The process is mostly by trial and error, observing other people’s comical situations, mistakes, laughing and applying it on yourself, etc. No one can teach you exactly how to write something funny, but the possibilities of creating humor on anything and everything are limitless.

Gustav Klimt professed that his identity was clearly revealed in his paintings and a careful observer could easily discern this. Without even bothering to paint a self-portrait, Klimt wanted art lovers and his fans to understand him through his monumental paintings on canvas. Gustav’s unique style of portraiture, highlighting recurring themes on beauty and eroticism, continues to enthral artists and art lovers, and remains a strong inspiration throughout their lives Gustav Klimt, an Austrian Symbolist painter, was born on 14th July, 1862 in Vienna. He died in Vienna on 6th February, 1918.

Klimt underwent training in architectural painting from Kunstgewerbeschule (Vienna School of Arts and Crafts) from 1876 to 1883. He started his career with painting interior murals and ceiling paintings for public buildings in Ringstrasse. In 1888, Klimt was honoured by Emperor Franz Josef of Austria for his outstanding performance in art. By 1892 Klimt was forced to take up the responsibility of the family after the sad demise of his father and brother. In 1897 he became the first president of ”Succession”, an association formed to promote modern art.

At the age of thirty, Gustav Klimt started a studio independently and concentrated on easel painting on canvas. The blend of gold, silver, patterns of mosaics, floral designs and radiant colours make Gustav’s canvases exceptional. Gustav Klimt was an expert portraitist of women. With his outstanding creativity, Gustav showed outstanding skill in portraying beautiful Viennese society ladies. His female portraits reveal his interest in women as sexual objects and his oil on canvas paintings reveal them in erotic positions. Judith I, The Kiss, and Danaë are noted for its female dominant expressions. These portraits of women display a sensitive realism along with the innate eroticism. Gaining inspiration from Egyptian, Byzantine, Classical Greek and Minoan styles, Klimt gave a very distinct appearance to his canvases. He maintained an aversion towards the old naturalistic styles of painting.

Beauty, eroticism, life and death were the themes that he expressed on canvas. Even though he gained considerable fame through his works, he had to face a number of controversies too. Through his Viennese art society, Klimt promoted the advancement of modern art. ”Hope I”, one of the masterpieces of Klimt, represents a pregnant woman. The portrait on canvas displays a beautiful combination of linear designs in gold and tiny decorative works. The image was once displayed and withdrawn from the 18th exhibition of Succession due to disagreements on its explicit representation.

”Judith”, one of his portraits, aroused strong opposition as he transferred this Biblical character into a canvas depicting a Viennese society lady. Ornamental touch in almost all the paintings is a noted feature of Klimt’s portraits. Klimt’s work gradually started to display a more decorative and symbolic style, when he started giving expression to more innovative ideas. His later works show an ejection of the old naturalistic styles and inclusion of more symbolic elements to convey psychological ideas.

Drawing a caricature might sound simple but few have the talent to transform a mediocre drawing to a funny caricature. Those who want to learn this skill should first understand the basic difference between a portrait and a caricature. The key difference between the two lies in the distortion of features of the subject. Distortion of key features of the subject makes the subject recognizable.

The first rule of drawing a caricature is to enhance the recognizable features of the subject. Minimizing the recognizable features will eliminate the likeness of the portrait to the subject. Can you ever imagine Mick Jagger with small lips and mouth? This is where keen observatory powers come into play. The artist needs to figure out the special features in the subject and think of various ways to capture the individual’s personality and breathe life into the inanimate portrait. Every little detail of a caricature is important. These details make or break the impact of the work.

The success of a caricature artist depends on the extent to which he/she exaggerates a recognizable feature of an individual. The artist needs to be bold enough to experiment with his art. One doesn’t necessarily need to be a good cartoonist in order to create a caricature. Often, caricatures are created by accident. Incorrect but recognizable representation of an individual can be classified as a caricature. Caricature is not always a cartoon; it can be a painting, a sculpture, or even a photograph.

A skilled artist knows how and when to vary his strokes and lines. It is always helpful to study as many faces as possible and then draw a mental picture of the subject. A good artist knows how to create a perfect combination of shadow and dimension. Use of harder strokes for facial edges and that of lighter ones for other details is generally recommended unless, of course, it forms the unique feature of the subject.

If you are not new to drawing you already know that the real fun begins when you start drawing characters. Drawing props can be interesting but that is no match to character drawing. And drawing cartoon characters can be even more interesting. But let me tell you at the outset, character drawing is more fun because it is more challenging. You need to have right techniques in your bag. Apart from that you will need to practice a lot before you start making decent cartoon characters.

To be successful in character drawing you need to keep in mind the difference between a prop and a character. In one line it can be said that a character normally communicates something to the viewer through facial expression, gesture or body language, whereas a prop just remains there in the scene. So your main task as a character artist is to let your creation communicate with the watcher. You will need to learn the basics of expression. Fortunately the fundamentals of drawing expressive characters are same no matter if your character is a man, a cat or a tree.

Be a close watcher of people around you and note how their facial muscles react to various emotions. Pay special attention to eyes, eye brows and mouth as these are the areas that play major part in forming various expressions. Also be a keen watcher of body language and try to implement your findings in your drawing where appropriate.

There may be times when facial expression or body language may not be sufficient for your character to express itself. For such situations you can represent your characters speech or thought using speech balloon or thought bubbles as you can find in various comic books. If your character is in motion you can use motion lines to represent that. Trailing straight lines can not only show if the motion is slow or fast it can also show the direction of the motion.

Proper use of shadows is also very important. The shadows can show the time of the day, weather. Detailed shadow will take lot of drawing effort, if you do not want to spend much time for drawing shadow you can use small patches to represent shadow which is much better than using no shadow at all in your creation. Use right kind of props to compose your scene. The props can set the mood of the scene. So be selective about the props. The right types of props can add to the expressiveness of your character.
